Your Guide to the New Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold

Your Guide to the New Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold

“It was such a major engineering lift with that first upgrade, we could have easily just updated specs and cameras and done a color refresh,” says Claude Zellweger from the Pixel industrial design team.

The “major engineering lift” Zellweger refers to is the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, last year’s brand-new folding phone. From being Google’s thinnest foldable yet to a fresh camera bar, the redesigned device was a welcome introduction to the Pixel 9 series.

Could the Pixel 10 Pro Fold offer the same, or will this now tried-and-tested design remain? Keep reading as we explain everything you should know.

What Does the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold Look Like?

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold has a very similar design to the 9 Pro Fold. In fact, little has changed between the two models, particularly after the previous generation’s complete design overhaul.

Here’s what you need to know.

Design

Available in new Moonstade and Jade colors, the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold features an aluminum frame and a silky matte back, made with Corning’s durable Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

It also comes with a new gearless hinge. While gears often get dust between them, degrading the opening and closing mechanism, this gearless option is more reliable and survived Google’s thorough drop tests. It also makes the device easier to hold, meaning you’re less likely to drop it in the first place!

Speaking of durability, the 10 Pro Fold is one of the only folding phones with a proper IP68 water and dust resistance rating. This durable foldable can survive being dropped in depths of water beyond one meter for over 30 minutes. Google also says the device is designed to offer over 10 years of use, equivalent to more than 200,000 folds!

Some recent reports refer to the Fold smoking up and breaking apart during a bend test. However, these were pretty intense tests, and it’s unlikely your Pixel 10 Pro Fold would go through the same scenarios in real life!

Display

Thanks to smaller bezels, the 10 Pro Fold’s 6.4-inch external screen is slightly wider than the previous generation. This book-style foldable also opens to reveal a vivid 8-inch internal screen with a dual-screen preview.

While some apps on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold only displayed in a stretched view and weren’t very user-friendly, this Super Actua Flex display properly shows content in full-screen mode. You can also use split-screen mode to use two apps simultaneously.

Tough Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is used for the external screen.  However, since the internal screen is made from ultra-thin glass, we’d recommend purchasing a tempered glass screen protector to prevent scratches and cracks.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold keeps the same smooth 120 Hz refresh rate but, unfortunately, still sports the crease down the middle of the screen. The only smartphone to (almost) successfully eliminate it is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7.

How Does the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold Work?

Like the rest of the Google Pixel 10 series, the 10 Pro Fold works using Google’s latest custom silicon chip: the Tensor G5. Let’s take a closer look.

Tensor G5

The Tensor G5 is Google’s first chip designed alongside TSMC rather than Samsung Foundry. With eight CPU cores, it features smoother graphics processing and fewer bugs than its predecessor.

We found that the phone feels pretty warm while performing multiple high-intensity tasks simultaneously, but it does continue working. This is likely because it doesn’t include the vapor chamber cooling system that features on the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL and keeps the system working steadily under intense loads.

Many of the 10 Pro Fold’s Google AI features are available on its predecessor. However, some are exclusive to the latest series, including the thoughtful reflection prompts offered by Pixel Journal. Magic Cue also provides better in-context support across multiple Google apps to efficiently find the information you’re looking for.

Battery and Charging

With its 5015 mAh battery, we’re pleased to see an increase from the 9 Pro Fold’s 4650 mAh capacity for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. However, it doesn’t quite reach the Pixel 10 Pro XL’s 25 W peak charging speeds. Instead, these wired speeds are limited to just 15W.

The Pro Fold and the rest of the Pixel 10 series are the only Android flagships to support Qi2 wireless charging. Qi2 works similarly to Apple’s MagSafe system, with chargers automatically snapping to the back of the device. Strong magnetic alignment offers a faster, more efficient charge.

Google has introduced its own line of Pixelsnap accessories to support this new system. However, Qi2 support means the 10 Pro Fold is also compatible with your favorite MagSafe accessories!

Camera Hardware and Software

Like its design, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold keeps the same camera setup as the previous generation:

  • 48 MP main

  • 10.5 MP ultra-wide (with Macro Focus)

  • 10.8 MP telephoto (5x optical zoom)

  • 10 MP front selfie

One big downside is that this year’s model doesn’t support some of the new Google AI features. This includes Pro Res Zoom, which uses an advanced AI algorithm to increase zoom from 30x to 100x. Instead, it offers Super Res Zoom up to 20x. Video Boost also doesn’t feature, which produces brighter, more colorful videos through cloud processing.

However, the 10 Pro Fold does have Instant View, allowing you to view photos in your camera roll on the other screen, rather than exiting the camera app. Learn how to take better photos with Camera Coach, too!

Is the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold Available Now?

We may have had to wait almost two months, but the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is available to buy right now. Official shipping began on October 9, 2025, much later than the rest of the lineup’s August 28 release date.

Google’s newest book-style foldable initially debuted at the annual Made by Google showcase, which took place on August 20, 2025, at Google headquarters in California. It launched alongside the rest of the Pixel 10 series, plus the latest Pixel Watch and Buds.

Should You Buy the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold?

If you’re looking for an impressive foldable phone experience, we’d recommend buying the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold. There aren’t many options for foldable flagship smartphones on the market right now, with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 being its biggest competitor.

The 10 Pro Fold is definitely a device of “firsts.” But while it’s the first foldable to achieve an IP68 rating and offer Qi2 magnetic charging, it doesn’t quite live up to its “Pro” name.

At $1,799, we’d expect to enjoy all the features of Google’s premium devices and more. However, despite paying almost double the Pixel 10 Pro’s price, the Fold doesn’t offer the same quality camera system. If you’re a keen photographer, consider the regular Pro model instead. For regular camera users, it still works very well!

Despite minimal design changes from the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the 10 Pro Fold’s performance could improve even more with future software and Google AI updates. Overall, it’s a great foldable phone choice — until we see what the (much-anticipated) iPhone Fold offers!
